However, there was a particular unexpected excitement this year, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tuppenceworth.ie\/blog\/index.php\/2008\/03\/02\/gongs-bubbly-manky-toys\/\">Fergal has said.<\/a>I was literally speechless as I walked up to pick up my award- a Special Recognition one. There hadn&#8217;t even been a nominations list to alert me that I needed to start planning something to say. It was just a general award for being brilliant- like they give you at the Oscars if you&#8217;re about to die.<\/p>\n<p>The speech I did make had only brevity in its favour. I think I tried to talk about community and voices.  I seem to remember singing We Are The World.<\/p>\n<p>So I&#8217;d like to belatedly thank <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tirnanogblog.com\" title=\"Tir na nOg, Irish Mammy Blog\">Embarr<\/a>, for not just putting up with all my enthusiasms but encouraging them, Fergal and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.midnightpublishing.net\/wordpress\/\" title=\"The Midnight Court\">Copernicus<\/a>, who did all the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tuppenceworth.ie\/blog\/index.php\/2006\/11\/24\/sunday-independent-12th-nov-2006\/\" title=\"Sunday Independent\">best<\/a> Paper Round essays anyway and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eire.com\">Antoin<\/a>, who did all the hard setup work with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.votetube.org\" title=\"VoteTube\">VoteTube<\/a>. And, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mulley.net\" title=\"Damien Mulley\">Damien<\/a> of course, who shows the huge impact a committed person can have in a small country.<\/p>\n<p>Great fun was had by all. A special hello to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sineadgleeson.com\/blog\/2008\/03\/02\/irish-blog-awards-last-night\/\" title=\"Sinead Gleeson\">Sinead Gleeson<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmaybury.ie\/journal\/\" title=\"David Maybury\">David Maybury<\/a> (who expected me to recognise him, even though he doesn&#8217;t comment with a photo or even under his own name here) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fustar.info\" title=\"Fustar\">Fustar<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.obriend.com\">Daragh<\/a> and Sinead, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dbspin.com\" title=\"Gareth Stack\">Gareth<\/a> (whose <a href=\"http:\/\/www.analoguemagazine.com\/the_blog\/every-which-way-but-lose\/\">encomium<\/a> the next day made me blush standing in my kitchen as I read it, as well as wonder which Fictional Character he&#8217;d met who was smarter than me) the <a href=\"http:\/\/beaut.ie\/blog\/\">Beaut.ie<\/a> girls (and most of their entourage, some of whom I used to work with, believe it or believe it not) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gavinsblog.com\/\" title=\"Gavin Sheridan\">Gavin<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.publicinquiry.eu\/\" title=\"Anthony Sheidan\">Anthony<\/a> Sheridan (who wanted me to justify professional self-regulation to them). Big regrets to Fustar&#8217;s wife <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kind-i-like.com\/\">Jess<\/a> who was struck down with the Sick and couldn&#8217;t leave Limerick.<\/p>\n<p>And a special thank you to my father, who I tricked into agreeing to babysit, even though he was nominated for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcgarrsolicitors.ie\" title=\"McGarr Solicitors\">Best Business Blog<\/a>. I comforted him later by telling him that Ice Cream will always be more popular than litigation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And Finally:<\/strong> Rick O&#8217;Shea is lovely, and I&#8217;m glad he&#8217;s won something for something he&#8217;s done.
