Podcasting your own Museum Tour

With Irreverence and an iPod, Recreating the Museum Tour – New York Times

An article about a brilliant idea- everyone gets a chance to be the guide in their museums, instead of just the passive listener to other people’s opinions.

You just record reactions to one or many of the exhibits, make them downloadable as mp3s and anyone can share your opinions as they go around. One of the best uses of this would be to take strangers or people visiting your home town around your version of a museum- stopping at all your personal ‘greatest hits’. Ideally, your work could even have directions as to how to get to the next exhibit- ‘turn left around the stuffed rhino with the worn out knees’ and so on.

I might even try one of these for the Natural History Museum in Dublin (aka The Stuffed Animals Museum of my childhood Saturday afternoons). If anyone would like to chip in with a guide to their own gallery or museum favourite, just email me or leave a comment.
