Well, Eoin’s call on RTE to let us use the footage of the leader’s debates has been turned down. The reason given?
“The view has been taken that it would not be prudent for RTÉ to waive its rights to the migration of the debates to other sites.”
Use of the passive voice, (the functionary’s friend), and a reference to purdence, but no real explanation of why it might be imprudent. Lovely.
However, it seems as thought at least some of our mutterings have been heeded. RTE didn’t just give us the footage from the broadcast news yesterday when John Gormley hijacked Michael McDowell’s press call. It also let us see the raw recording in full- all 30 minutes of it.
Of course we still can’t do anything with it. Our national broadcaster says that it is imprudent to let us touch The Precious.
