Errors and Omissions

The following is taken from my notebook. It was written on the 3rd January this year, as I tried to make a list of problems to solve or salve. I haven’t changed any of it in the light of hindsight. It will be my last post on politics for a month.

1) The main opposition party is further to the right than FF. Its only possible partners are to FF’s left.

2) FG is stupid. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid.

3) FF is a permanent government. The rich and powerful have come to accommodations with it. Therefore they will all resist change.

4) Bertie is indestructible. Any attack on him is counterproductive.

5) The opposition are used to losing.

6) Many voters find party politics boring and irrelevant. The incumbents have the most to lose and therefore the greatest incentive to motivate their support.

7) The parties react to the media as though they were actually voicing common concerns, rather than their own. -Worries over policy documents, when manifestos are irrelevant.-

8 ) Opposition continue, in the main, to do the same thing and expect different results- one of the definitions of madness.

9) Desperate lack of talent.

10) Control Freakery in Labour HQ

Agree with your analysis. Irish party politics is one big yawn, but I don’t think rock throwing as in Rostock achieves anything either. If you have literary talent you could write satirical stuff like Jonathan Swift, or go to art school and become a political cartoonist. Personally I take refuge in reading books and listening to classical music. Ever tried organic gardening?

Organic gardening is for those without a child under the age of one. Alas, as I quite fancy the idea of growing my own raspberries.

I’d happily flee permanently to Lyric FM, if I didn’t have to live in the world that those party politics shaped.
