By way of inaugurating my participation in this blog, I'm posting the below article on the subject of defamation and the internet. It's part of my plan to corner the market in IT Law. A piece on Bittorrent will follow in the next week or so.
I'll be on the Tubridy Show again tomorrow morning, sometime not long after the 9 O'Clock News, talking internet libel and such, and touching on some recent novel uses of the web by parties in divorce proceedings.
One of the oldest and most pernicious myths about the Jewish people is that known as the Blood Libel. This is the belief, dated by some scholars back to the the 5th Century, that Jews were in the habit of kidnapping Christian children. The most common version alleged that the children were killed and their blood was used to thicken matzo balls for the passover meal.
My talk on Defamation for online publishers is now available from the Tipperary Institute's Podcasting. ie site. Some speaker's observations-Bernie and Co have credited me with a professional qualification I haven't fully achieved.
Fergal's post on Libel on the Internet (printed here first scoop-hunters. ) is now an article in today's Irish Times. Page six in the Business section, for those with ready access to it.
This piece is thematically linked to Fergal Crehan's excellent treatise on on-line libel. In it I hope to map out how the Information Age is truly upon us and the days of 'it will be alright on the night' management of websites or other information are long behind us. A barrister talks openly about 'cornering the market in IT Law'.
