Like many of my profession, I tend to almost subconsciously collect great courtroom moments. I was reminded of one such when reading an obituary of George Melly. Melly was a jazz musician, author and libertarian (although, given that libertarianism has since become little more than a wish by the well-off not to have to clean up after themselves, I think libertine is probably a better description).
A few weeks ago, YouTube announced that it was launching a series of localised websites. Ireland now has YouTube. ie, Britain YouTube.

My previous regular hair-cutting haunt was abandoned when I was treated to a flow of invective against Jews as my neck was being brushed off.
With thanks to the Cedar Lounge Revolution, the EU Observer has the news that the European Commission has a plan to fund political foundations to "support "European seminars" and serve as a "framework for national think tanks, political foundations and academics to work together at [the] European level," says a preliminary paper on the issue.
Of the three blogs written by political correspondents of Irish papers, Harry McGee’s Inside Politics is my favourite. He gives the sense of going a little deeper than he does in his newspaper pieces, which is surely the whole point of journalist’s blogs.
When an electorate who claimed to have been at the point of revolt over the state of the health service can proceed to return the main government party with an increased vote, you have to wonder if people aren’t completely full of crap when they talk about their political views and intentions.

In Oliver Twist, Dickens famously had Mr Bumble dub it an ass, but few can have expressed this criticism in terms as concise or as pithy as the author of the below maxim, found in a cubicle of the gents' toilet in the Law Library.
